Clayton "Rocky" B. Schindler, Jr.

January 27, 1949 ~ February 5, 2016 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Clayton B. Schindler, Jr. “Rocky”, 67 was lifted up to be with his Savior February 5, 2016.

Born in Mansfield, Clay lived most of his life in the Akron area. He proudly served in the USMC with one tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-1970 and re enlisted from1974-1976 where he served with the1st Batallion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division FMC. He also served in the Army National Guard. Clay had been a long distance truck driver, a diesel mechanic and machinist retiring in 2007 from Gables Engine and Machine. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and western TV shows and watching movies with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Edith Dunkel Schindler; step daughter, Dawn Marie “Pandy”; brother, Darelle Collins; mother in law, Mary Shriver “Mumsie”; nephew, Frank Seesford, Jr. “Spanky”; best friend and fishing buddy, Jim Kelley.

Clay is survived by his wife, Jeannie; dad, Clayton Burnell Schindler, Sr.; sister, Debby (Tom) Short; brother, Rick (Sue) Schindler all of Akron; sisters in law, Leona Collins, Linda Kelley, Barbara (Bob) Turner, Gwen (Rick) Lane, Karen (Pete) Clapp, Diane (Steve) Bradford; brother in law, Dennie (Karen) Shriver; a host of nieces and nephews. Clay will also be missed by Cheryl Henline, who was like a daughter to him, and her son, Jaxson who was thought of as a grandson. Jaxson will miss his Pop-Pop.

The family would like to thank his doctors and nurses at Summa Hospital Third Floor ICU for the wonderful care given to Clay. 

Calling hours will be 4 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at The Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle) and one hour prior to the service Thursday at Snyder Funeral Home in Lexington, OH.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday February 11, 2016 at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave. in Lexington, OH with Pastor James Spencer officiating.. Interment will be at Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Research at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, 10701 East Boulevard Cleveland, OH 44106
