Domenico Silvio Iannacchione passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 28, 2017, at the age of 85. He was born in San Pietro Avellana, Italy on Dec. 12, 1931, the youngest child of Bambina (Di Sanza) and Giovanni Iannacchione. He was the last surviving member of his siblings. As a young child, his family settled in Tripoli, Libya. There, he met and eventually married his childhood sweetheart Giovanna (Lina) Mezzasalma on January 26, 1957. He and Lina immigrated to the U.S. in June 1958 and settled in Akron, Ohio with his uncle and aunt, Antonio and Esterina Fiorello.
He worked for 35 years as a Foreman for Kenmore Construction Co. until retiring shortly after a workplace injury. He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, the Laborer’s Union #894, the Italian Center in North Hill, and Fiesta Italia.
Domenico is survived by his wife, Lina of 60 years, their four children; John (Sherri), Germano, Richard (Fadia), and Ester (Jim) Presutto; his grandchildren, Francesca (Zachary) Howard, Craig, Alisionna, Matthew, Jason, Nicholas, Corinna, Melina, and Isabella, and great-granddaughter, Charlotte. He is also survived by his nephew, Joseph (Susan) Roversi and niece, Cesira Riccillo, as well as many great nieces and nephews here and in Italy. He was a kind, gentle, and generous soul. His faith, family, and friends were at the center of his life. Domenico had a loving impact on all the lives he touched and will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ettore, Nilda, and Gina, and his grandson, Anthony.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Palliative Care unit at Akron City Hospital for their devotion and care.
Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave, Tallmadge (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
Mass of Christian burial will be 12:00 NOON Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron with Fr. Edward Burba officiating. PROCESSION TO FORM AT THE CHURCH.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
