Donald A Jones

Don was born in Tallmadge, Ohio, on December 31st, 1925 and peacefully passed away on April 26, 2017. A 1943 graduate of Tallmadge High School, he entered the U.S. Army in April 1945, before being transferred to the European Theater of Operations. There, he served in the 78th Infantry Division, going into combat on December 13th, 1945. For his service, he was awarded three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After his return home, he married Virginia Dille on October 8, 1949. They raised their two children together and shared over 50 years of marriage. Don retired after nearly 35 years with Firestone. He and Virginia enjoyed traveling the world, as well as being active Summit Metro Parks hikers and members of the Tallmadge Prime Timers.

Donald was preceded in death by Virginia, who passed away on July 12, 2002; his parents, Florence and Haskell Jones of Tallmadge; and sister Barbara Jean (Jones) Cockrell of Englewood, Florida. He is survived by: son, Gary Jones of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, his wife, Peggy, and their children, Travis, Lelah and Natalie; son, Tom Jones of New Braunfels, Texas, his wife, Steffanie, and their children, Kyle and Shannon; and sister, Marjorie (Jones) Knapp of Oldsmar, Florida. This is in addition to many great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Mulberry Gardens of Munroe Falls, where Donald resided his remaining years. Also to Senior Independence Home Health and Hospice. We know you both did everything you could to make his final years as enjoyable as possible. Burial will be at Tallmadge Cemetery with funeral services privately held by family.

A child of The Depression, he was a good provider. A soldier in combat, he was stoic in the face of declining health. A devoted husband, he rejoins his bride for eternity.
