E. Georgene "Gene" Thompson

Georgene “Gene” Thompson, 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on November 26, 2016.

Gene was born in Akron and attended Garfield High School. Gene settled in Tallmadge and remained there for most of her life.  She retired in 1982 from Firestone Tire & Rubber Company after 41 years of dedicated service.  Gene was a member of Firestone Country Club and the Tire Town Chapter of the National Secretaries Association, receiving the honor of Secretary of the Year in 1978.  She served for many years on the Tallmadge League of Woman Voters.

She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice “Chick” Thompson in 2013; sister and brother in law, Frank “Bud” and Opal “Bobbie” Fahrer.

Gene is survived by her beloved nieces Becky (Darrel) Owens, of Hendersonville, TN, Barbara Scarbrough, Betsy (Richard) Staeger of Brimfield, Brenda (Henry) Rojas of Houston; sister, Edna (Bud) Hoisington of Green and Family.  Great nieces, Melissa and Meghan, great nephews Brian and Brent (Jen) Scarbrough and great-great nephew Mason, great-great nieces Payton, Krisalee, Kaylee and Brooklyn.  A special heart-felt thank you to Polly Bizefski of Akron, and good friends and neighbors, John and Sharon Nemeth of Tallmadge.

During the past three years one of the greatest joys of life for Gene was spending time with her great-great nephew Mason, and most recently with her great-great niece Brooklyn.

At request of the Family, there will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place.
