Eugene Edward Wylie

Eugene Edward Wylie, 89 years old, entered his eternal home on June 23, 2017. He lived most of his life in Tallmadge.

Eugene served in the U.S. Army and retired in 1990 as a Teacher with the Akron Public Schools.  He earned a Bachelor degree at Heidelberg College with a Masters at Kent State University.  Eugene was a member of the AEA Akron Coaches Association.  Eugene was an avid hunter and sportsman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Nan; parents, Clarence and Gename Wylie; brother, Edward (Barbara) Wylie; brothers in law, Tom Hillery and Don Oletjen; his caring and loving friend of 22 years Hariette Atsaroff.

Eugene was a caring and loving husband and a devoted father to Kim Liggett (Michael), David Wylie (Linda), Jill Crislip (Scott), Jan Baker (Earl), Judy Hively (Mick-deceased) and James Wylie (Theresa) and a devoted grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 33-3/4 great grandchildren. Eugene is also survived by his sister, Pat Oletjen and sister in law, Joellen Hillery.

Gene touched many lives as a dedicated teacher and coach, at Akron East High School.  His 1966 basketball team won the City series championship and proceeded to the Class AAA state tournament finals.      

He actively continued to serve others even in retirement through organizations such as Meals On Wheels. He was a long time member of The Chapel On Fir Hill and actively involved with Across Generations Adult Bible Fellowship.

We will miss you Dad. We know you are enjoying your new home and look forward to seeing you again.

Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at The Chapel 135 Fir Hill, Akron with Pastor Bob Schneider officiating.

Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
