Welcome to the memorial page for

Jack L Burgess

November 5, 1936 ~ April 24, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Jack L. Burgess Sr., born on November 5, 1936 passed away on April 24, 2017, at the age of 80. He was born in Spencer, WV to Ruby & Charles Burgess. He fought the good fight as strong as any man could have against the ravages of Parkinson Disease for well over 12 years; his stubbornness served him well during this time. Refusing to quit he would spend his days walking his favorite park-Munroe Falls Metro Parks alone or with Mom, and especially debating the forces of evil (politics) at the Tallmadge McDonalds with all the other retirees, he enjoyed those days so very much.

At the age of 12 he moved to Akron, more importantly to East Akron (home of the Orientals), a place where he met not only the love of his life (Nancy Morgan of Ellet) but also he grew up with the “Gang” his lifelong group of buddies who always were present in our lives, these were men built with character and were full of it as well…

Jack & Nancy married August 10, 1957 and quickly started a very productive and successful family who he loved with all his heart, Steven (Debi), Michael (Virginia), Ronald (Roxanne), Janette and Jack Jr. (Debbie) and subsequently 16 Grandchildren-Megan (Clint), Jessica (Matt), Zachary , Jacob, Ryan (Nicole), Evan (Ashley), Mason, Lee, Taylor, Brittney, Derek, Blake, Brandon, Bailey, Morgan, and 6 Great Grandchildren-Mia, Adam, Cassidy, Dylan, Jaylen and Santino. His brothers Raymond (Wilma), Ralph (Janet) have passed, but have not been forgotten, he is survived by Brother Gene (Eloise) and his favorite Sister-Carole (Art).

Jack was a historian who loved American Politics; he served his Country in the Air National Guard and in his Community all his life. Attending the University of Akron while holding down several jobs he was never afraid of hard work. His professional career began at First Federal Savings and Loan, becoming the VP at an early age, turning hard work into success was his formula. He served as President of the local Chapter of Financial Education, HBA, and many other Professional Organizations receiving numerous awards including Leadership & Executive of the Year. His love of politics was manifested through his relationship with his brother in law John Morgan (Tallmadge City Council, Zoning Boards, Mayor, County Commissioner and then 1st County Executive of Summit County), working behind the scenes was Dad pulling the strings, helping John move forward, he so loved those days. He had several other successful business endeavors, but none he enjoyed so much as serving as the Executive Director of the Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce receiving a Proclamation for the promotion and significant growth of business within the City during his terms, a city which he became part of the fabric and growth that the City of Tallmadge continues to enjoy.

Throughout his life relationship were most important to him, whether it is the “Gang” from East High, the Saturday Breakfast Group, the McDonald’s Morning Crew or all the lifelong relationships he cultivated from his business associates, each one of you were important to him and he valued your friendship. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful care of our father at Bath Creek Estates, especially his nurses, Dru, Joanie, and Liz- his time out buddy, “Thank You”.
