Laurence Dayton Wines

Laurence Dayton Wines, 83, affectionately known as “Dayton” to his family, passed away in peace and with grace on March 16, with his loving family at his side.

He was born December 9, 1933 in Sissonville, WV to the late Garrett Hobart and Mayme Burgess Wines. He was also predeceased by sisters: Louise Taylor, Frances Wickline, Reva Clark, and Maxine Taylor, and brothers Garrett Jr., Arlage, and Harold.

Dayton enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 during the Korean War.  He was a machinist at Consolidated Freightways with over 30 years’ service.    He met and married his wife, Dottie, in Charleston, WV.  Together they raised two children, and celebrated life together for 59 wonderful years. Dayton enjoyed going to auctions, traveling to research genealogy, collecting knives and old tools, sports, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Dayton was known for his gentle spirit, his witty sense of humor, and a laugh that could make even the most petulant smile.  He was our role model and loved us unconditionally.  He will be greatly missed.

Dayton is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dennison); daughter, Selena (Bill) Wilson of Akron; son, Christopher (Wandagayle) Wines of Akron;; grandchildren, Cole Wilson, Rachel Wines, Eric Wines, Michele Neugebauer, Chrissy Gioconda,and Michael Black; and great grandchildren, Jordan Wines, Anna Neugebauer, and Daniella, Vincent and Carmine Gioconda, sister Mary Taylor of Charleston WV, sister-in-law Dareen Wines of Elkview WV, and brother-in-law Warren Dennison of Cuyahoga Falls OH, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 3:30 pm at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave, Tallmadge (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle) with Pastor Larry Baldridge officiating.  

 Interment will be at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  Cremation has taken place.
