Richard E. Ross, 91, passed away surround by his family on December 6, 2017. Born in Lakeland, Florida, October 10, 1926 he lived in Tallmadge most of his life.
He came to Akron, Ohio as a very young child. Richard grew up in East Akron and graduated from Mason Elementary School. He moved to Wabash, Indiana with his parents during the war years and graduated from Wabash High School in 1944. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944 and served in Italy. He was discharged in 1947, returned to Akron and attended Akron University. Richard was employed at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the Accounting Department. He retired in 1982 after 31 years of service. Richard was a jazz trumpet player and played in most of the local bands beginning in 1949 with the Frankie Reynolds band. Later bands were the Swing Machine and the Akron Big Band.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelia and Ovid Ross; step father, Walter Titus.
Richard is survived by his wife, Carolyn E. Ross; daughters, Jacquelyn (David) Bair, Sandra Ross, Patricia (John) Ross-Clay; grandsons, Zachary Bair and Charlie Kleintop
Per Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated with no calling hours, memorial service or flowers.
