Shirley A. Mayfield, 90, passed away January 18, 2023. Born in Deerfield, Ohio to John and Nettie Francis on July 31, 1932.
Shirley grew up on her family farm. She later graduated from high school in 1950. Shirley went on to marry John “Jack“ Mayfield in 1955 and raised their four children in Tallmadge, Ohio, residing her last five years in Lewis Center. Shirley was a dispatcher with the Akron Water Department. She was also a valued member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, Primetimers, Deerfield Dandies and the Garden Club.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Mayfield; her parents, John and Nettie Francis; her brothers, John and Glenn Francis; and her sisters, Imogene Francis, Ruth Rogers, and Norma Hampu.
Shirley is survived by her sons, John Mayfield, Jim (Carrie) Mayfield, and Joe (Sherry) Mayfield; her daughter, Judy Mayfield; as well as her eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was kind, free spirited and was often complimented on her amazing smile. She loved to sing with her friends, and even in the kitchen whether that be alone or surrounded by her family. She also loved to play uno, a tradition her family will carry on, and also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends. Shirley collected ducks and horses, among other animals, many of which could talk and sing on command; these interactive collectables were one of her favorite ways to welcome guests and family into her home. The light, love, and peace she brought into everyone’s lives will never be forgotten.
