Wilma Pohly Obituary

Wilma M. Pohly, 97, of Tallmadge (formerly Hudson) passed into the arms of her Savior on June 17, 2020.  She loved the Lord and attended Hudson's, and later in life, Tallmadge's First Congregational Church.

Wilma was born on December 16, 1922 in Detroit Michigan to Anna and James (Jim) Metz. She was the second of five children. Wilma married Lyle F. Pohly on August 31, 1947. She and Lyle lived in Hudson, Ohio for almost 50 years before down-sizing to Tallmadge.  She was a great baker of cookies and cakes, but her specialty was pies.  She loved bird-watching and tending to her incredible flower gardens, but she loved, even more, the family gatherings during the holidays and special occasions. A passionate sports fan, mom lived and died with "her" Cleveland Indians on a nightly basis, and panic set in if there were cable issues.  She and Grandpa were loyal, traveling fans of all the sports-playing clans, and often offered their help to the umpires.  Wilma, a keen card player, enjoyed playing Bridge and TIC.  She was an active member of The Akron City Hospital Women's  Auxiliary Board, serving as president and chairing the annual rummage sale and giving freely of her time to the hospital's gift shop for years. Starting as Christmas help in 1975, Wilma worked for the M. O'Neill's (aka Kaufmann and May) Company selling fine jewelry.  She had a passion for her customers and was often a top-seller. Additionally, she was "volunteered" for many, many classroom roles by all of her children, to whom she was completely devoted.  Christ was her Savior and she passed peacefully into God's hands, for which we are thankful.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Lyle F. Pohly; parents, James and Anna Metz; brothers, Jack, Bob and Jim Metz; sister, Eileen Roberts; and grandchildren, Bobby and Chrissy Corley.

Wilma is survived by her children, Lyle (Terri) Pohly of Tallmadge, OH; Sue (Ted) Salsburg of Navarre, OH; Daniel (Kathy) Pohly of Hartville, OH; Beth (Duane) Ewing of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren, Cortney (Patrick Rinaldi) Pohly, Shannon (Michelle) Salsburg, Jamie (Lindsay) Salsburg, Lindsay (Ronnie) Carter, Devin Pohly, Danae (Adam) Behr, Marsena (Matthew) McClure and Austin Ewing; and eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler Pohly, Brandon Rinaldi, Joey Rinaldi, Anna Salsburg, Brooks Salsburg, Kyle Salsburg, Lauren Salsburg, Raegan Carter, Rylee Carter, Oliver Behr, and Gabby Behr.

A celebration of life and interment at The Western Reserve National Cemetery will occur at a future date due to the COVID19 pandemic.
