Eugene V. Torisky, 83, died peacefully on Friday, March 23rd. Dad grew up in the South Side and Knoxville neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended minor seminary with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood at Brunnerdale (Canton, Ohio). After serving in the U.S. Navy, Dad worked for 84 Lumber and Ohio State Waterproofing for a combined 50 years. He and our mom Althea were parishioners at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Tallmadge, Ohio for almost 40 years, where Dad served as a lector and with other family members sang in the Music Ministry.
Gene was the beloved husband of Althea (Cromie) for 58 years; the loving father of Gene Jr. (Theresa) of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Ken (Sharon Yee) of Mentor, Ohio, Maureen (Mike) Prokopius of West Chester, Ohio, and Mark (Melissa) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and the dear Poppy of Mary Kate, Rachel, and Danny Prokopius, Justin Torisky, and Cian and Brendan Torisky. He is survived by his brothers, Charles (Donna) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Donald (Patricia) of Elgin, Illinois, and Br. Duane O.F.M. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his sister, Karen (Tony) Janflone of Washington, Pennsylvania; and by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Acute Care for the Elderly wing of Summa Akron City Hospital, and the Gardens of Western Reserve and the Hospice of the Western Reserve for their skilled care and love for Dad in his last months.

Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Victory Church, 73 North Avenue, Tallmadge at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with Rev. Michael Matusz.
Interment will follow at Tallmadge Cemetery.
