Hugh was born in Bethlehem, West Virginia and resided in Suffield Ohio.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, who earned a Purple Heart for service at Normandy Beach (D-Day). Hugh worked as a welder at Kent Machine, Co. and enjoyed 40 years of retirement. He was a caring, hard-working family man. Hugh loved being on his farm tending to his chickens and watching his guinea hens roaming the fields. He also loved sitting under a shade tree supervising his grandchildren in the hay fields. Hugh was an avid gardener, who well into his 90’s planted every seed. He was also known for sitting on his swing in the front yard. Family, friends and neighbors would stop by to sit and enjoy each other’s company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Carpenter and grandson, Danny Armstrong.
Hugh is survived by his brother, Hubert Carpenter of North Carolina; sister, Dama Jean Stockert of Bridgeport, West Virginia; daughter, Carol Armstrong (James); grandchildren, Marcina Kline (Roger), Joe Armstrong, Cody Armstrong; great grandchildren, Broderick Kline and Luella Kline all of Suffield, Ohio.
Heaven has gained one amazing man, who will be greatly missed.
Celebration of life will be 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Suffield Lions Club House, 1128 Waterloo Road, Suffield. (next to the Elementary School)
