James F. Miles, 85, of Tallmadge, died peacefully at home on October 27, 2018. He was born in Glenville, West Virginia on February 1, 1933, and moved to Akron at 11 years of age.
He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Joe and Flora DeWitt. Jim graduated from East High School in 1951 and then joined the Air Force, serving for four years during the Korean conflict. He retired from General Tire, where he worked as a machinist and then with General Tire International, traveling to England, Romania and various African nations. Following retirement, Jim worked for Lou Perry Associates and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Jim married Mildred Schmidt (Millie) on August 16, 1958, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary August, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alan, his aunt and uncle and his parents, Fred and Vera Miles.
Jim is survived by his wife, Millie; sons, David of Akron, Steven (Chris Higginbotham) of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Megan (Johnny) Woods and great granddaughter, Aubree of Akron. He is also survived by close family friend, Steve Wyszynski of Akron; cousin, Ruth Moore of South Carolina and his extended family.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 4 :00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle) and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 with Rev. Robert Tauscher officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to Sprenger Hospice, and especially to Amanda, Darice, Elise and Mindy for all the compassionate care they provided for Jim and Millie.
