Mary (Maria Simone) Paparone

Mary (Maria Simone) Paparone, 99, of Akron, Ohio passed away after a short illness on September 10, 2017 at her son Joseph’s home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Mary’s family moved to Akron when she was one and she remained there the rest of her life. Early in her life, Mary worked as a waitress and at Quaker Oats. After the passing of her mother, Mary helped raise her sisters while her brothers were in the service during World War II. After World War II, she married the love of her life, Basil Paparone, on June 3, 1946 and they were happily married until Basil’s death in 2011. Mary was a longtime member of Visitation of Mary (formerly Annunciation) Catholic Church, a member of the Dean Heights club and a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 685.

Mary loved to crochet afghans, table cloths, dresses, tops, and doilies. Whether it was preparing tasty meals, baking cakes or her famous pastries and desserts she was happiest in her kitchen. With Mary, family and friends came first. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She totally enjoyed setting a beautiful table while serving cakes, cookies and candies that she had so lovingly made. Her home was always immaculate and she took immense pride in decorating it.

Mary lived a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. It is consoling to know that she has been reunited with her loving husband, Basil and her many family members and friends who had preceded her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Diego Simone and Caluzza Carisotta Simone, brothers, Charles, Angelo, Joseph and Roxie, sisters, Josephine, Frances and Lena.

She is survived by sons James (Marilyn) Paparone, Joseph (Pamela) Paparone grandsons, Ryan (Brittany Smith) Paparone, Cory Crimaldi, Chip Hearn and Robert Hearn, great grandchildren, Basil Paparone, Addison Paparone, Nicholas Paparone, Benjamin Paparone, Darryl Hearn, James Robert Hearn, sister Emily (John) Lo Presti.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Gloria Mitchell R.N. and the staff at Cleveland Clinic VNS for the hospice care given to Mary during her final days.

Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Donovan Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave, Tallmadge.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2018 at Visitation of Mary Parish/Annunciation Church 87 Broad St., Akron with Fr. Jonathan Zingales officiating.

Interment will be at Holy Cross.
