On December 17, 2018, Colonel Robert Dean Britt took his final flight bound for heaven at age 87. Bob was a Korean War Veteran, served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 where he gained the rank of Corporal, served in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol as Colonel, was a bookkeeper for GMAC, often worked 3 jobs to support his family.
Bob was born September 13, 1931 in Lima, Ohio to Walter A. and Martha O. Ault Britt. Survived by his wife, Patricia (Patti); sisters, Meredith Bradshaw and Barbara Breidenbach; brother, David Britt (Marina); daughter, Debra Schrader (Al); sons, Greg and Ricky; grandchildren, Troy and Brandon Garrett (Mom-Debra), Daniel Britt (Dad-Greg), Chad, Kurtis, Deanna and Matthew Britt (Dad-Ricky), Sandie, David and Kyle Britt (Dad-Dennis); and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis; grandson, Jeremiah; two brothers, Art and Jim.
Bob was employed for 35 years with GMAC, employed by Marhofer Chevrolet for 20 years; treasurer of the Korean War Veterans of America – Akron Chapter; founder and treasurer of Trinity United Methodist Church; currently a member of Tallmadge Methodist Church; volunteered 25 years for Open M. He played in the country band, The Bandits for 25 years, played piano and organ by ear, sometimes simultaneously, cooked for the needy at church and also for friends, family, and coworkers.
Bob was an exquisite belcher, “Must have been something I ate!”, always had a joke, pun, dirty fairytale, or funny story to tell. Bob was a great father to his children, son-in-law, and most of his children’s friends.
A funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. December 27, 2018 at Tallmadge United Methodist Church, 207 N. Munroe Rd, Tallmadge, Ohio 44278. There will be no calling hours.
Cremation has taken place. Interment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at a later date.
