Alfred V. Musci, 91 of Tallmadge, OH passed away March 2, 2021 from complications associated with a long battle with Alzheimer's.  A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather – Al was born to Giovanni and Carrie (Perniola) Musci in Santeramo in Colle, Italy on April 6, 1929.  His loving parents preceded him in death, as did his sister Rita "Mimi" Ninni and two infant siblings.

A devout Catholic, he grew up in Akron's Italian neighborhood of North Hill.  After graduation from North High School at the age of 17, he misrepresented his age and joined the US Airforce, who, upon learning of his true age, discharged him.  Turning 18, he joined the US Army, where he served for two years in the Pacific theater and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal/Japan.  After the war, he returned to Akron, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity while earning a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Akron.

After a "more than chance" summer encounter with a capsized canoe of girls at Akron's Portage Lakes, he met the love of his life - Mary May Stalnaker - to whom he soon married.  Over the next 65 years, he would celebrate the births of four sons and 13 grandchildren.

Al's 35+ year career at Goodyear Tire – most recently before his retirement as Area Manager for Off- the-Road Applications and Engineering, allowed him the opportunity to travel the world, while his wife Mary managed the home front and sometimes was able to accompany him on some of his European trips.  In addition to family and career, Al was an avid golfer, and a lifelong member of the North Akron Knights of Columbus.

Al was best known for his undying love for his family, and his keen wit and sense of humor, which he never lost despite Alzheimer's.  He loved music, particularly Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, and could often be found singing along to their songs. Al's sharp mind and vast intelligence, though compromised, was never lost to Alzheimer's, as he continued to do Sudoku and cross word puzzles to the end.  His passion for playing cards was consistently emphasized, as the last thing he would say in any conversation was "When are you coming over to play cards?"

He especially cherished spending time with his children and 13 grandchildren, even if he was just sitting there amidst the noise and craziness.  He was a great believer in family togetherness and experiences, and generously hosted his entire family on five separate cruises to the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas.  One of his most cherished included a trip to his hometown of Santeramo in Colle, Italy where the family enjoyed special memories - especially eating gelato and drinking Italian red wine.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary, four sons, John (Tracey), Michael (Donna), Larry (Julie) and David; 13 grandchildren - Christina, McKenna, Olivia, Michael (Melanie), Carrie, Matthew, Dana, Benjamin, Vincent, Jaclyn, Jared, Alexander, and Nicholas, as well as nephew Tony (Marybeth) Ninni and Special Friend Art Sunday.

Calling hours will be held Monday, March 8, from 4 pm until 6 pm at the Hennessy Funeral Home (552 N. Main Street, Akron).  Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Parish (83 Mosser Place, Akron), on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:00 am, followed by Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Parish.
