Alfred "Jerry" R. Goldsmith

January 23, 1947 — August 9, 2015

Alfred R. (Jerry) Goldsmith succumbed to lung cancer at his home, on August 9, 2015 and went home to heaven.  Recently preceded in death by his son, Robert M. Goldsmith; sister, Doris Syx, along with many family members and dear friends.

Jerry knew as promised in (John14:2) because he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, that heaven awaits.  Jerry's mother Ruby died when he was five years old.  His father Alfred, along with his sisters, Doris and Mary; his brother Harold along with the many loving nieces and nephews raised him to a respectful, hard working, dedicated man.  His life was wonderfully complete. Growing up in Akron, he graduated in 1966 from Garfield High School.  He served in the United States Armed Forces at Fort Knox and was discharged to return home to his ailing father.  Jerry worked the position of tire builder at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. beginning in 1968 and retired from there after 32 years of service.

Jerry had many passions throughout his life, Goodyear, Nascar, hunting, fishing, vacationing, gambling and of course his addiction to the claw machine games.  He was very proud to be a recovering alcoholic. His life story is told by the many service awards, pictures, hats, t-shirts, bumper stickers and memorabilia he collected throughout his life.  Jerry was a strong, wonderful, loving, and giving husband to Mary, they partnered in 1978 and married in 1998 and have stood strong together since building a life long relationship with each other.  He will be deeply missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Garlando-Goldsmith; son, Jerry Allyn Goldsmith; daughter in law, Missy Goldsmith, his five grandchildren; sister, Mary Forshee-Rayl and many other family members and friends.

Please join us in the celebration of Jerry and his journey throughout our lives.

Visitation will be 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
