Alyce Jeanette Shannon

Alyce Shannon, 85, passed away April 18, 2026 at her home. Born July 11, 1940 in Akron, Ohio, Alyce had lived in Mogadore in the same house for the last 62 years.

Alyce graduated from Hower Vocational High School in Akron in 1958 and obtained her License in Cosmetology. She had always said she was going to move to Hollywood and become the “Hairdresser to the Stars”.

A young man in a convertible with a feather in his fedora derailed those plans one evening. On that night, Alyce met the love of her life, Al Shannon. They were married in 1961 and built a house together in Mogadore. In the 1960’s, Alyce owned and operated two beauty salons in the area. Upon having her third child in 1970, Alyce become a stay at home mom to raise her three sons. During this time, she became an avid bowler, tennis, and volleyball player. Al and the boys were the number one love in her life and she never missed a game, activity, or event that they participated in. This also carried over as she took so much joy in watching her grandchildren and all they were involved in as well.

Aside from family, the second love of her life was travel. Alyce became a travel agent in the 1980’s and loved every aspect of travel. She and Al went on over 70 cruises and countless trips to Mexico with their great circle of friends. She was always there for everyone and never asked for anything in return. Alyce will be missed by all who had the opportunity to spend time with her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Al; parents, Fred and Jennie Dodson; and her brother, David.

Alyce is survived by her sons, Mark (Samantha), Greg (Jennifer), Steve (Leslie); grandchildren, Nate, Zach, Summer, Matthew, Jackson, Skyler, Max; sister, Sharon (Chuck); sister-in-law, Fran; brother-in-law, John; and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Cremation has taken place and there is no viewing or service.
