Bonnie Marie Crum, age 84, passed away at home on June 20, 2026, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Janice and Frank Aiken, she lived most of her life in the Cuyahoga Falls and Tallmadge areas.
Bonnie’s vocation and calling was as a medical assistant for over 35 years in the OB/GYN practice of Jursek, Stine, and Mitchell (later to become Summit OB/GYN, Paragon and now Summa Health OB/GYN). She was loved by patients, coworkers, and doctors. Very often when Bonnie was in public, you would hear calls of “Nurse Bonnie” from patients who wanted to talk about their children and thank her for her care and kindness.
Bonnie was a very kind, compassionate, intelligent woman who loved fiercely. Her children will miss her telling them what to do! There aren’t enough words or ways to characterize the love Bonnie had for her children and her family. The Christmas season was her favorite time of year, and she enjoyed picking out just the right presents and making the holiday special for her family.
In her retirement Bonnie enjoyed reading, shopping, her precious dogs and keeping a very, very neat and clean house. She enjoyed a Pepsi and M&Ms most evenings and never missed her weekly hair appointment. She was passionate about her dogs and loved talking about them. Bonnie enjoyed walking the neighborhood with her dogs and meeting the neighbors.
Left to cherish Bonnie’s life, love and memory are daughter, Beth Wood of Akron; son, Michael Wood (Michelle) of Urbana; brother, Mark Aiken of Columbus; many nieces, nephews and friends; bonus daughters, Marcial Fidelholtz and Darla Earnest; dogs, Heidi and Ellie and cat, Kitty.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Janice and Frank Aiken; father, John K. Aiken; sister, Kathie Risko; brother, John R. Aiken; husband, Donald H. Crum.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Colin Drolshagen and his staff for the kind and compassionate care they provided over the years. The care received from Summa Hospice far exceeded our expectations, and Bonnie was treated with great dignity and respect. A special thank you to Dr. Danielle Ingram for her guidance and time. Heartfelt gratitude to the many family members and friends who have been supportive to both Bonnie and her children – especially nieces Janet, Sue and nephew Tom. Special thanks from the entire family to Megan who helped care for Bonnie for the last several months with kindness, dignity, and respect. Megan’s help allowed the family to keep their promise to Bonnie that she would remain in her home with her dogs.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 25th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge OH. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
The funeral service will be at Donovan Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26th with Pastor Steve Lashbrook presiding and visitation one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road, Akron, OH following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Summit County Humane Society, 752 W. Portage Trail, Akron, OH 44313.
