It is with profound sadness that the family of Bruce O. Bowers announces his passing on November 7, 2024, at the age of 81.
Bruce spent his childhood in Gomer, Ohio, before moving to Norwalk, Ohio, to play baseball. A graduate from Norwalk High School, he was a distinguished scholar and exceptional athlete earning letters in baseball, football, and track and field. Bruce served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He later went on to earn his marketing degree from The University of Akron and spent most of his life as an Akron area resident. Bruce was a pioneering entrepreneur and the founder of several influential companies in the polymer field, including TRC Industries, C and B Silicones, Syn-Coat Enterprises, SilMix Inc., Recovery Concepts LLC, and co-founding CT-Extrusions LLC and CT-Mixing LLC. His innovative vision and leadership not only helped shape the industry, but also earned him the respect of colleagues, peers, and friends alike. Bruce's commitment to excellence and his passion for the field of rubber processing were evident in the companies he built and the people he mentored along the way.
A devoted family man, Bruce is survived by his wife, Carol Martin-Bowers; son, Rick (Diana) Bowers; daughter, Becky Schapel; stepson, Chad (Ansley) Melnik. He was a proud grandfather to Lauren and Preston Bowers, Cade, Coby and Lucy Schapel, Cooper and Bo Grinde, each of whom brought him endless joy; in-laws, Charles Schultz, Marv and MaryAnn Nordwall; many nieces, nephews and friends. Bruce's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, who will remember him not only for his professional achievements, but also for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. He was a man of integrity, vision, and strength, whose life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him and those who loved him.
A private Interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in honor of Bruce's life and legacy.
