Charles Robert Alexander, 86, passed away August 29th, 2016. Born in Akron, he lived most of his creative life in Tallmadge, Ohio. For the past eight months, Bob had lived with his eldest son and his family. Bob was confident, energetic, curious and inventive. He was an artist accomplished in many media; woodcarving, printmaking, painting and metalwork. His most ambitious artwork was the house and gardens he designed. This house is where he lived with his wife Dorothy (Dottie) and their three sons. It sits on a lot that was once part of Dottie's parents' potato farm. His sons were raised there in an atmosphere of love and creativity.
Bob worked as an influential art teacher for 31 years; first at Tallmadge High School then later teaching at Hudson High School. His students were changed for the better by his teaching. Many went on to become successful artists. Bob taught at Kent State University in the Art Education Dept. during the summer months. A Kent State University graduate, Bob was a self-employed artist selling his art at festivals and through galleries. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and Northeast Neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy.
Bob will be greatly missed by his sons, Greg (Karen) Alexander of Creston, Mark (Mary) Alexander of Killbuck, Eric (Liz) Alexander of Caldonia, Michigan; grandchildren, Tori, Caleb, Michael, Hazel and Arlo; sisters Lee (Bob) Jones of New Mexico and Kay Roberson of Kentucky.
