Charles Frazier, 90, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025. Born and raised in Jacksonville, NY, he also lived in Newfield, NY; Marathon, FL; Whortonsville, NC; Leesburg, FL; and Tavares, FL before eventually settling in Stow.
Charlie grew up as the youngest of three and had many adventures on the shores of Cayuga Lake. He loved spending his time outdoors hunting and fishing and working on boats and engines — he was very mechanical and could pull apart any engine and put it back together. He served in the Navy Reserves for more than 10 years before reconnecting with his high school sweetheart Elsy.
Charlie and Elsy traveled extensively on their 32-foot antique Richardson boat, from Ontario, Canada to the Florida Keys. They spent much of their time in the Keys on their little piece of paradise that eventually became known as Charlie's Island. For several years, they lived in Whortonsville, NC and became active members in the community. Charlie was well known for his July 4th community fireworks displays that usually(!) went as planned -- he always brought the fun. They spent several more years in Florida before moving north five years ago where they began new traditions with their grandchildren, including regular family dinners and game nights, while Charlie continued to putter in his garage, which is always what he enjoyed most.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elsy; his sons, Marty Oltz and William Marty Burun; parents, Gertrude and Fred Frazier; brother Erwin Frazier and sister Margaret Bickal.
He is survived by his daughter Kristen Schell, her husband John, and their children William (Belle), Christopher and Matthew. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Linda; grandchildren Jason, Cori (Craig), and Greg; great grandchildren Cole, Porter and Tegan; nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a family memorial will be held at a later time. Those who would like to honor Charlie's life are encouraged to spend time on the water, enjoy a bit of whiskey and a cigar, or enjoy a good bonfire and fireworks.
