Chrysanthos (Chris) Georgiou, 94, died peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2022. Born in Drynia, Cyprus on July 14, 1928, he arrived in the United States in December 1952. He resided in Beaver, Pennsylvania for 23 years and then called Tallmadge home for the last 47 years.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, George and Chrystalla (Phillipou) Christodoulou; sisters, Miranthe (Stelios) and Marianna; brothers, Savvas and Kyriakos; brothers-in-law, Savvas and Panayiotis; sister-in-law, Antigone, and uncle, Harry (Merope) Phillips.
He is survived by his loving son, George (Kelly) Georgiou; grandchildren, Alyssa and Evan; sisters, Nikki and Iroula; brothers, Sozos (Chrystalla) and Christodoulos; sister-in-law, Nitsa and brother-in-law, Haralambos. Also surviving are his cousins, Nymphe Kefal, Phillip (Kathy) Phillips, Harry (Eleftheria) Phillips; goddaughter, Marianne (Vasilis) Vordonis, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and former wife Rosalie Pamboukou
Chris served two years in the United States Army (1953-1955) and started his career with Westinghouse in Beaver, Pennsylvania. He then began his new career and true passion as co-owner of the Beaver Restaurant. After moving to Tallmadge in 1975, he owned the Brass Rail Restaurant in Akron and co-owned the Cork & Bottle Restaurant in Akron. Chris enjoyed cooking, gardening, volunteering at the annual Greek Festival and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron, playing tavli, having coffee with his friends at McDonald's in Tallmadge, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of The Order of AHEPA.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Critical Care and Palliative Care units at Akron Summa Hospital for all their care and comfort during his final days.
Funeral service will be at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, Ohio 44304 with Fr. Nick Manuel officiating.
Family and friends may visit from 4 until 7 P.M. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge, OH, with a Trisagion service at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Burial will take place at the Tallmadge Cemetery.
