Doris Ann Swartz (89) left this world after a short illness on July 10, 2024, and entered into the arms of her heavenly father.
She was born on March 04, 1935, in Girard, Ohio, being the seventh of 10 children. The family moved to the Hudson, Ohio area for a short time as her father (Harry Swartz) managed the Western Reserve Academy Farm in the mid 1940's. Eventually the family moved to Tallmadge, Ohio which her father operated the Summit County farm until it closed in the summer of 1970. Upon the death of her father in 1971, Doris and her mother (Mary Swartz) then moved and lived in Stow, Ohio.
Doris graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1953 and began her career working as secretary at the Tallmadge high school for Oliver Ocasek who was the principal at the time. Doris later worked at Herff Jones as the office manager eventually retiring in 1999.
Family was very import to Doris and her love for children was endless. Her meticulous knack for details served her well over the years in her career and personally. Doris always knew everyone's birthday or anniversary and you could be sure to receive a card in the mail making you feel special. If there was a question about a past family event, Doris could recall the details in a snap. You could also count on receiving your first Christmas card of the year in the mail from Doris.
The family is also so grateful for Doris' commitment over the many years in organizing the family summer gatherings at Wingfoot Lake Park, Christmas parties and the family Saturday breakfasts. She truly lived her life as commanded in Matthew 22: 36-39, love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself.
Doris was also a member of the First Congregational Church which met at the original location on the circle in Tallmadge and then at their current location on Heritage Drive. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served as the secretary for the Sunday school department.
In her spare time, Doris played the sousaphone with the Goodyear Concert Band which entertained the crowds for many years. During the summer at Wingfoot Lake Park, you could listen to the music and hear Doris bring the sousaphone to life.
Doris was the last of the 10 siblings. The last of a great generation. We will dearly miss her, but we will take comfort knowing she is now home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Swartz; brothers, Kenny Swartz, Glen Swartz and Jim Swartz; sisters, Alice Swartz, Dorothy Timmons, Helen Sinclair, Norma Hise, Donna File and Janet Farkas.
A special thanks to the care givers at Pebble Creek Healthcare Center in Akron, OH. They provided great care for Doris over these past few years. The family appreciates all they did to care and provide for her.
