Dorothy I (Deming) Rasnick

October 4, 1933 — June 6, 2025

Suffield

Friday, June 6, 2025, Dorothy Rasnick, 91, was joyfully greeted by her Lord and Savior, and a joyous reunion celebration with loved ones began. She was born October 4, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, to Floyd and Anna Marie (Bargeloh) Deming. In 1953 she married her sweetheart from East High School, John T. Rasnick, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John T., sons, James and John F.

Dorothy is survived by her youngest son, Robert (Wendy); daughters-in-law, Hilda and Janelle; six grandchildren, Allison (Josh) Burdeshaw, Erica Rasnick (Derek), Elizabeth (Peter) Ingram, Robert (Brooke) Rasnick, Sarah (Josh) Wiseman, and Thomas Rasnick; 11 great-grandchildren, Karsten, Eva, Juliana, Emmerich, Madelyn, Landon, Dustin, Samantha, Nathanael, Knox, Levi, Aiden, and one great granddaughter still being finished. She had an incredible love for her family and supported all of their endeavors. She will be deeply missed by many.

If mom sank her love hooks into you, you were hers for life. There was no escape. She just poured out her unconditional love to everyone and would never let go.

Mom was a nurse at Akron City Hospital for 39 years and did per diem work for another 3 years. She was a proud and dedicated member of the Suffield Fire Department for 32 years, often teaching EMS training. She taught swimming lessons at the Mogadore Reservoir, was a paramedic instructor for many years, and let's not forget her years as a den mother and band booster. She was also the designated driver for Jim's paper route when necessary. She was always involved in our lives and supportive of almost everything we dreamed of.

She was very active in the churches she attended: Covenant Presbyterian Akron, Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Akron, Christ Presbyterian Canton. She was an active youth leader, sang in the choir, and served as the parish nurse at Goodyear Heights and was a Stephen Minister at Canton.  When she was no longer able to drive as much as she wanted, she started a ministry of her own by calling everyone on the church birthday list to wish them a happy birthday.

The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the palliative care doctors and nurses at Akron City 3 East and the home hospice nurses and staff that were victims of her love hooks, as well as the home caretakers Anna Douglas, Maria Giavasis, and Saphire Chambers.  You all took such good care of mom.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Lucarelli officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Private burial will be at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Dorothy's memory be made to the Suffield Township Fire Department or the church that you attend.
