Dorothy Mae Morgan Polefrone passed away on March 12th at the age of 93. Mae was born in Akron, Ohio to Edgar "Fate" Lafayette Morgan and Anna Grace Banner. She was the youngest of four children, now reunited with siblings, Lena Maude "Molly" (Jack McFarland), Walter Ray (Eleanor), and James Howard (Clara Lou). Mae attended Mason and Robinson Grade Schools and East High School, graduating in 1946. She then attended comptometer school and worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber and later at Sears Roebuck, retiring in 1989.
Mae married the love of her life, Joseph Gio Polefrone, on August 12, 1950 at her sister Molly's house on Osage Avenue in Goodyear Heights in front of their fireplace. They attended and baptized their children at Annunciation Catholic Church, where the children also attended elementary and middle school. Mae will be deeply missed by her four children, Phillip (Amy Felix), Frank (Joanna Monroe), Jodi (Eric Weber) and Rita (Rick Cevasco) who take comfort in knowing their dad now has her wrapped in his warm embrace.
Mae was a fiercely loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, and aunt, who joyfully filled her home with family, friends, and good food. Sadly, her husband, siblings and most of her friends and in-laws have preceded her in death, but she will be greatly missed by her eleven grandchildren; they knew better than anyone the unfaltering love and intense pride of their Noni, often expressed in sincere conversations, cautionary predictions, monetary birthday cards and, always, a big bowl of sauce and meatballs. Mae's grandchildren, Amy (Ben), Joey, Joy (Nick), David, Andy (Anna), Phil, Joel (Ashley), Sarah (Domenika), Emma (Zach), Moira (David), and Vinny (Anna), as well as her great-grandchildren, (Camryn, Caleb, Lois, and Isaac), will continue to live up to their Noni's laser-focused desire for each to be educated and live their lives as "good citizens".
When asked what she would want people to know about her, Mae wanted us to share that she loved playing cards, participating in water exercises, spending time with family (especially the picnics at Eastwood Park), and sitting outside with neighbors in Goodyear Heights. We would add to her list the joy she expressed from providing a loving home where all were welcomed, celebrations for family accomplishments, and many warm hugs. She will be missed, but the strong foundation she provided allows her to live on in us, and we are so very grateful!
A private service will be held at Donovan's Funeral Home, followed by a family luncheon in celebration of Mae Polefrone's life. Donations may be given to honor Mae: The Landing of Long Cove, 5535 Irwin Simpson Rd, Mason, OH 45040.
