Dorothy Marie Starrmann

Dorothy Marie Starrmann of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at the age of 95.

Born to German immigrant parents, Dorothy grew up in Akron, where her family operated a hair salon on West Market Street. She began her career as a nurse's aide and later answered a spiritual calling, becoming Sister Marilyn of the Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her devotion to faith and education helped shape the legacy of Our Lady of the Elms School.

Dorothy left the convent to care for her ailing father, demonstrating the selfless compassion that defined her life. She shared a lifelong friendship with Billie, her roommate of 54 years in Highland Square. Though neither had surviving family, Dorothy's warmth and grace built a chosen family among neighbors and caregivers.

In her later years, Dorothy faced memory loss with dignity and continued to radiate joy. She was lovingly placed at Regina Health Center, a faith-based memory care facility, where she thrived in spirit and brought comfort to those around her. She often referred to her guardian as her "angel," a reflection of the deep bonds she formed even in the face of fading recognition.

Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle soul, unwavering kindness, and the way she made everyone feel uniquely cherished. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.

A private memorial will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Dorothy's memory.
