Edna A. Wesley

Edna A. Wesley, age 104, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2022.  104 years ago, the world became a nicer place when Edna was born on June, 24, 1918.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Edna was a life member of the Alumnae Association of Akron School of Nursing, having graduated as a registered nurse from that school in 1939. Edna was involved in training nurses for selective service during WWII for which she received a certificate of appreciation from President Harry Truman in April of 1946. Edna was both a hospital ward nurse and a private duty nurse in the Akron area.  She also worked in the office of a well-known cardiologist, Dr. Uffe Jensen, for over twenty-five years.

Edna and her husband, George lived in Tallmadge and often traveled to Florida for vacations with friends. After George died in 1974, Edna continued friendships in both Ohio and Florida. She and her good friend, Mary Cummings were in the same graduating class of 1939 and the two friends shared an apartment in Covenant Village in Plantation, Florida until Mary's death in 2002. Edna remained in Florida until 2018 when she moved to LaCour House Assisted Living in New Roads, Louisiana. Aways active, even in her later years, friends described her as someone who was always up for a new adventure. Edna easily adapted to Louisiana life style including Mardi Gras parades, cookouts and crawfish boils. She lived an active and involved one hundred and four years always declaring "I refuse to worry about anything!" Her secret to such a long life? "Minding your own business and a glass of wine each day is nice."

Edna is survived by her nephew, John DeVore and his wife, Jackie; her grandniece and nephew, John David and Wesley DeVore; her great grandnephews, Nelson DeVore and A.J. Smith; and great grandniece, Aubrey DeVore.  Edna lived a full and active life and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Memorial service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Edna's name be sent to LaCour House Assisted Living, 345 Major Parkway, New Roads, LA 70760.
