Elizabeth F. DeCarlo, "Betty Boop", was born on May 11, 1932 in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2017, with her loving family by her side.
Born to Love, and that she did! Betty Boop, a devoted wife and loving mother, brought joy to the world around her through her kindness and giving nature. Her devotion to God and others, her famous cookie platters at all social events, and countless Sunday and holiday dinners (never without sauce and meatballs) will be forever missed. She was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Sons of Italy. Betty spent her whole life taking care of others. She retired from her long-standing position as "lunch lady" with the Akron Public Schools in 1994.
Preceded in death by her: parents Dominic and Gertrude Costello; brothers Robert, Raymond, and Thomas; sisters-in-law Joanne and Barbara; mother and father in law Francesco and Antonia DeCarlo; brother-in-law Joe DeCarlo; son-in-law Gary Fisher. Survived by her husband of 62 years ,Vito "Tony" DeCarlo; children Toni Fisher, Frank (Karen) DeCarlo, Chris (Melody) DeCarlo, Rita (Larry) Michalec, and Cindy (Mike) Protich; grandchildren: Laura (Jason) Harris, Joe (Katie) DeCarlo, Kristin (Mike) Dugan, Heather (David) Gezzar, Charlie (Danielle) Michalec, Lisa Fisher, Vince Michalec, Zoe and Micah Protich, and Chase DeCarlo; great-grandchildren: Dominic and Marissa Harris, Anthony DeCarlo, Lily and Dylan Gezzar, Vito Michalec, and Presley Dugan; brother John (Maggie) Costello, brothers and sisters-in-law Frank (Jean) and Andy (Paquita) DeCarlo, Brenda Costello; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
Family will receive friends at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron, OH., on Sunday, July 23, from 2-5 p.m. A mass celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 24, at 11a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron OH. The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Cleveland Clinic's ICU and Select Speciality Hospital for the tender care of Betty Boop.
