Elsy Frazier, 88, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2024. Born and raised in Ithaca, NY, she also lived in: Newfield, NY; Marathon, FL; Whortonsville, NC; Leesburg, FL; and Tavares, FL before eventually settling in Stow.
Elsy grew up as the youngest of three, and as a spirited young woman she learned early on to fend for herself. Her first marriage was brief, and she found herself a young, widowed mother. A few years later she ran into her high school sweetheart, Charlie, whom she then married. Elsy and Charlie enjoyed boating and had many adventures together, first on Cayuga Lake, and then up to Ontario to experience the Rideau, Smiths Falls, and the Thousand Islands before they began exploring the Hudson River and the Intracoastal Waterway. Eventually they made their way down to the Outer Banks and to the Florida Keys, where they ended up staying for ten years. They moved several times after that, always living on the water for boating access. They moved north five years ago and began new traditions with their grandchildren, including regular family dinners and game nights. Elsy took no prisoners when she played rummy, and many other games as well, where her quick wit and lively conversation made her the darling of the game table. She was also known for extremely direct questions and conversation, which she always made with a loving smile and sparkle in her eye.
Elsy was preceded in death by her son, William Marty Burun; parents, Louis and Margaret Lucille Longstreet; sister, Jeannette Brainard; and brother, William Longstreet.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles, and their daughter, Kristen Schell, her husband, John, and their children, William (Belle), Christopher and Matthew. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda; grandchildren, Jason, Cori (Craig), and Greg; great grandchildren, Cole, Porter and Tegan; and nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held at a later time. Elsy had a deep faith, and we take comfort knowing she is at peace with God. Our deepest thanks to her dedicated team at Crossroads Hospice, who have provided wonderful support and compassion these past several months. Those who would like to honor Elsy's life are encouraged to seek out a new adventure or enjoy a rousing night of games and conversation with their loved ones.
