Elvira Sferra (Mariola) Elvira Sferra (Mariola), 91, passed away October 23, 2015. She was born to the late Lucia (Testa) and Domenico Mariola in Carovilli, Italy on November 11, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stefano Sferra and her sister, Lauretta (Mariola) DiVito of Italy. In 1952, she moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina with her husband, Stefano and son, Guido where they lived for 21 years. She loved Argentina, its culture and people and she will be missed by her many relatives and friends that she made there over the years. In 1973, Elvira, Stefano and their youngest daughter, Rita came to the United States. She fell in love with America and made Akron their permanent home. She was a member of St. Anthony Church, loved cooking and taking care of everyone, but her favorite pastime was sharing a meal with her family around her. Elvira is survived by her brothers, Michele (Anna Maria) Mariola, Stefano (Beata) Mariola; and sister Maria (John) O'Brien. She will be greatly missed by her children, Guido (Rosalia), Rita (Daniel) Lancianese; grandchildren, Daniel (Jen), German, Leonardo (Megan), Ashley (Jeffrey) Thompson and Dominic Lancianese; four great-grandchildren, Kai Daniel, Gavin, Maximo and Lucas Sferra; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Elvira's journey through life was an amazing adventure that took her across three continents. She touched many lives with her kindness, and will be remembered for her bright smile and unconditional love. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Pl., Akron. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron. 330-376-3032.
