Esther M. Smith

Esther M. Smith, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior July 11, 2021. Born in Cuyahoga Falls, she lived most of her life in Rootstown.

Esther was a wonderful mom, grandma and friend, loved by all who knew her.  She was an excellent cook and a social butterfly, who loved to be constantly surrounded by friends and family.  Esther adored her children and grandchildren and was always up for an adventure, especially if it included family.  She was a faithful Christian who read her Bible daily and was a member of Friendship Bible Church in Randolph.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Raymond and Mazie Oblisk; sisters, Loretta Smith, Eleanor Jones; brothers, Eddie Oblisk, Kenny Oblisk, and granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Willingham.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Tammy (David) Kessler of Randolph, Laura (Duane) Melby of Rootstown, Tracy (Brett) Housley of Rootstown; son, Charles Howes of Tampa, FL; stepdaughter, Sandra (Jim) Rumsey; brother, David (Carol) Oblisk of Cuyahoga Falls; sister-in-law, Nancy Oblisk of Limaville; 9 grandchildren: Michael Rumsey, Ashley Kessler, David Kessler, Dalton Melby, Dillon Melby, Erin Housley, Abigail Housley, Lauren Housley, Lucas Howes; and great grandson, Dalton Melby, Jr.  She leaves behind many precious friends, including Becky Mix, Betty Sauner, Joe and Rhoda Houghton and very dedicated neighbors and helpers Bob and Barb Stary.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 and at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Grace Church of Rootstown, 4808 Tallmadge Rd., Rootstown, Ohio.

Funeral Service at 12 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Grace Church of Rootstown with Pastor Bill Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
