Evelyn "Joanne" (Stonbraker) Fox

d. February 20, 2025

Munroe Falls

Evelyn Joanne Fox, nee Stonbraker, met her angels on February 20, 2025, after a brief stay at Mulberry Gardens Memory Care in Munroe Falls, Ohio. She was 92 years young. Born and raised in Dayton, Pennsylvania to Carl Jewel Stonbraker and Mabel Ione McHenry, Joanne and her twin sister were the youngest of 11. Her first five years were spent on the family farm until they moved to the center of the metropolis of Dayton (population 500). After high school, Joanne worked in a factory before becoming "reacquainted" with a friend of one of her brothers. She married William ("Bill") Fox in 1950, and they were together 67 years until Bill's death in 2017. They lived in a cottage on Lake Milton, Ohio for the first several years of their marriage, both working for the government at the Army Arsenal. After the birth of their first child, they returned to Dayton. While her daughters were living at home, Joanne was a homemaker who was very involved with all school events. She never missed a play or concert. After her girls graduated and moved away, Joanne went back to work as a secretary at the Dayton Elementary School, Elderton High School, and Dayton High School.

Joanne was an active member of the Glade Run Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir, serving on the Missions Committee, and holding many key positions throughout the years. She enjoyed Card Club with "the girls," traveling, shopping, dancing, golfing, summer weekends with her camp family in Elk County, Pennsylvania, and trips to the casino. Joanne never met a camera that didn't love her, which has provided us with wonderful pictures of a beautiful lady.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her 10 brothers and sisters, her husband, and her son-in-law, David Walker. Joanne is survived by her daughters, Christine (Tina) Walker and Janine (Jan) Fox; her beloved grandson, Jacob Fox, and great granddaughter, Nora. During Covid, Joanne moved to Joliet, Illinois to live with Tina and, in 2021, they headed east to be close to family. Joanne's last years were happily spent in Munroe Falls, Ohio, surrounded by so much love and laughter.

A Memorial Service for Joanne will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton-Smicksburg Road, in Dayton, Pennsylvania. During the service we will also honor the memory of her twin, Elizabeth Jean Grau and her brother-in-law, Carl August Grau.

Memorial donations can be made to Glade Run Presbyterian Church.
