Fredric McClellan, 88, passed away November 22, 2023.
Born in Akron, Fred graduated from Mogadore High School in 1953 and lived in the Mogadore area his
entire life. He proudly served in the Army Reserve, received his B.A. from the University of Akron in
1958, and earned an M.Ed. from Kent State University in 1961. Fred retired from Mogadore High School
in 1999, where he was a history teacher as well as a basketball and football coach. During his 41-year
tenure, his achievements included the John Hays Humanities Fellowship, Martha Holden Jennings
Fellowship, and Read Scholar. In 1997 Fred was awarded by the VFW a citation and medal for patriotic
service with the Voice of Democracy. Fred had an appreciation for the arts and enjoyed drawing,
reading, watching old movies, and listening to classical music.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Zelma McClellan.
He is survived by his wife, Sandie, of 47 years; daughter and son-in-law and best buddies, Terri and Ed Burns of Suffield; sons, Michael McClellan of New Jersey and Brian McClellan of Cuyahoga Falls; and brother, Joseph (Patricia) McClellan of New York.
No services will be held at his request.
