G. Duane Platt, 88, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, began his everlasting life with Jesus on March 2, 2017, while surrounded by his family. Known by all as caring, compassionate and considerate, he will be greatly missed by all of the lives he has touched and so greatly influenced. He was a role model for hard work, smart thinking and detailed planning right up to his last days.
Duane was a self-trained electrician, motor re-designer of electrical apparatus, woodworker, stained glass maker and Mr. Fixit. During his business career he began electric motor repair at Akron Controller & Motor at age 15 and received a work deferment from the military due to his unique skills in motor re-design and building skills used to support the war efforts. He genuinely enjoyed and cherished his working relationships and friends from AC&M "The Shop". Duane rose to the rank of Vice President, and as the company grew his responsibilities were expanded to cover northern US and Canada. He retired from AC&M in 1991 after 47 years of service. He also served as President of the greater Cleveland chapter of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA). Duane spent much of his retirement years helping others in their times of need, creating many woodworking and stained glass projects, served as Treasurer of his Condominium Association and worked on his golf game…he achieved his goal of shooting his age, 85, in 2014.
Duane is survived by his cherished and loving wife of nearly 68 years, Helen; daughter, Debbie Huston (Dan); son, Andy Platt (Linda; grandchildren, Stacy Jasper (Mike), Scott Lehman, Amanda Laurich (Matt), Leah Wolosiansky (Bic), Adriana Platt; great grandson, Ayden Lehman, nephews, Tim Morrison (Val), Jim Malorni, and Ray Sarrocco (Kathy), Jeff Miller and Kyle Miller; niece, Linda Richardson (Terry); Sister-in-law, Dolores Sarrocco; many grand nieces and nephews; best friend and golfing buddy, Paul Brownlee (Phyllis) and many treasured friends from all facets of his life. A special thanks to the friends in their Condo community for their care and support.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; father, Gerald; sister, Geraldine; sisters and brothers-in–laws, Esther and Sam Morrison, Mary and Andy Malorni and Herman Sarrocco. He dearly loved his family and will be missed by all.
