Gary E. Schultz, 72, born February 16, 1944, passed quietly at his independent living residence at Stow Glen Retirement Village on March 15, 2016.
Gary was a kind and gentle soul his entire life, steadfastly empathetic and loving towards others. He had a keen sense of humor attributed to his Scottish "McKenzie" heritage of his mother, Elsie Mabel McKenzie Schultz, for whom he cared as a devoted son until her death. Gary was a graduate of North High School from the class of 1963. He was a hard worker and retired from Houser Company as an Assistant Manager in Production. He served in the National Guard approximately 1966 - 1970 and has been a fierce supporter of our Veterans and troops! Gary excelled at tennis and was in a league for many years as a younger man. He enjoyed bird watching and feeding, animals, bicycling, walks in the park, picnics and margaritas! Gary loved coin collecting, history and reading. He was a Civil War buff, therefore enjoyed traveling to Gettysburg, Virginia. He was a "no fuss kinda guy" when it came to himself, even though he was always smartly dressed and groomed, but an "old fashioned romantic" when it came to the ones he loved. He was generous with his thoughtfulness as well as his gift of love. He made folks feel good about themselves and was such a comedian!"
"Our Cuz" (more like a brother) will be sadly missed by the three "McKenzie Girls" : Debbie, Tari and Michele! Survivors are cousins: Deborah and Theodore Johnson of Mathews, NC and children Andrew Johnson (Debie), Scott Johnson (Dawn), Jennifer McCuiston (Isabella); Tari and Edward Schutzman of Charlotte, NC; Michele and Christopher Platis of Akron, Ohio. Dick and Shirley Goeble of San Mateo, California. He is predeceased by his mother Elsie M. Schultz (McKenzie); Irma Goeble (McKenzie) and daughter Shirley Trehearne; John S. and Maxine Waldorf McKenzie.
Gary truly appreciated the Amish and loved taking day trips to southern Ohio especially with his closest friend, Anita. Anita Vitas and her family were family to him. He was "Uncle Gary" and very lucky to be loved by them and included in all family celebrations. Gary will be missed dearly by Anita Vitas of Stow, Ohio; Jason & Diane Vitas and children Lexi, Soren, Selah, & Cameron of Dayton, Ohio; Jennifer Walker, son Aidan and her fiancé Chip Blanchard of Columbus, Ohio; Terry & Mary Rohr of Bay Village, Ohio; Janis and Tim Kass of Mooresville, NC.
The McKenzie girls say, "May "Fern" forever rest in peace!"
