George Abood, 90, of Tallmadge, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025.
Born July 14, 1935, in Akron to George and Ann Abood, George dedicated his life to family, faith, and service. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his family—whether sharing a meal together, watching his grandchildren become young adults, playing cards or enjoying simple moments with loved ones by his side.
After serving honorably in the U.S. Air Force, he embarked on a fulfilling 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, first as a letter carrier and later in management. George and his wife Margaret also owned and operated Abood's Gourmet Table Catering for over 25 years.
George lived his life with a servant's heart. He was a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph's Melkite Church and later at Saint Martha now Blessed Trinity Parish. He was well known for running and calling bingo, being a lector, organizing the annual Food and Fun festival, and helping prepare senior luncheons—touching countless lives with generosity and goodwill. George was also extremely active in the Akron Kirby Club, an organization that celebrated his Lebanese heritage and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Speaks), his parents and siblings Nicholas Abood, Irene "Sis" Abood (recently deceased 7/17/25), and Lillian Bagnoli.
He is survived by children, Diane Abood, Marie and Scott Willis, Michael and Stephanie Abood and Beth and David DeVitis. His four grandchildren who Pa loved with all his heart, Rachel and Sarah Abood and Max and Mia Willis. George leaves special friend Toni Pogwizd and her children, Ron Pogwizd, Kathryn (Brett) Gander, and her grandson Brydon Boxler. George is also survived by in laws, Barb Abood, Joe Bagnoli, Dorothy Pfeil and Bill and Barb Speaks. He leaves many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family was always George's greatest joy and deepest pride. He leaves behind a loving and grateful family who will treasure his warm presence, generous spirit, and quiet strength. From hot dogs to Rummy to Hallmark movies to little hands to breakfast after Sunday mass, George embodied a life well lived. Well Guys……
Visitation will be Friday, July 25, from 4–7 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Avenue, Tallmadge.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish, 300 East Tallmadge Avenue, Akron.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Blessed Trinity Parish.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
