Gerald E. Feezel, 88, passed away March 5, 2015.
Born in Akron, Jerry had lived in Tallmadge for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired in 1988 from First Federal Savings & Loan with 26 years of service.
Jerry loved to travel with his wife Cathy covering much of the America's via land and sea. He also loved anything that flew. Having flown in everything from antique bi-planes to the Goodyear Blimp, just six month ago he took a ride in a restored WWII TBM – the same kind of plane he trained in as a tail gunner for the Navy.
He graduated from Buchtel High School and attended Kent State where he was a founding member of the Phi Kappa Tau Beta Mu chapter. Once a month he had a standing date with his "lunch bunch" friends for nearly 70 years. He was a long time member of First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. Jerry was a lifelong music fan of big band, classical, dixieland, and blue grass. He regularly attended live performances. He was an avid automobile racing fan with special interest in NASCAR and sprint car dirt track events.
Jerry was a long time volunteer at Akron/Summa Hospital and a former board member of many Akron area boards. He was an active member in many clubs, including, Cosair and Hawks Radio Control Aircraft Club, Penn-Ohio Model A Automobile Club, and Firestone Hunting and Fishing Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Cathy); and sister, Jean.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Kim (George) Carris, Sharon Hamrick, Teresa (Stephen) Gemmell, and Linda (Brian) Bors; sons, Jon Feezel and Paul (Diana Dally) Feezel; grandchildren, Jeremy (Brenda) Pipes, Ashlea Feezel, James Riley Feezel, Christopher (Tara) Gemmell, Catherine Bors, Thomas (Amara) Gemmel and Kelly Bors; great grandchildren, Lucas, Mya, Brianna, Brandon, and James.
Visitation will be 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr. Tallmadge with Rev. Dr. John Schleup officiating.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
