Helen "Mickey" W. (MacMillan) Karl, age 105, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024.
She was born March 30, 1919, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of James and Betsy (Wilkinson) MacMillan. Married to her husband, John Karl, for over 70 years, she lived most of her life in Tallmadge. There she was an incredibly devoted and loyal wife until his passing in 2006. Together they built a strong, supportive family, of whom Mickey was endlessly proud. She was the ultimate matriarch, respected, wise, strong-willed, and deeply loved. She was a fierce protector who cherished her family. Leading by example, she taught her family the value of hard work, integrity, perseverance, and her virtues. A dedicated employee, she held various positions throughout her life. She wanted to ensure her family was well cared for, as she was a very generous provider. She was also generous with her time, talents, and love. Mickey relished her days volunteering at Akron Children's Hospital where she found much joy in comforting babies, rocking, and cuddling them. She willingly gave of herself to family, friends, and those in need during the entirety of her life. And no matter what her age or physical strength, she was always overflowing with energy. Forever joking and teasing.
Mickey's presence was undeniable. Her legacy is enduring and will continue through the lives and the families of her two daughters, Betsy (Roger) Rorabaugh and Nancy Karl; and son, Ronald (Janet) Karl who preceded her in death in 2020.
She also leaves behind grandchildren, Kristi (Bryan) Corson, Julie Rorabaugh Falter, John Karl Rorabaugh and Bradley Ronald Karl; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Trenton Karl Rorabaugh, Lauren Falter, Matthew Karl Falter, Trevor Rorabaugh and, Chloe Rorabaugh.
Private funeral services were provided by Donovan Funeral Home.
She was laid to rest alongside her husband at Tallmadge Cemetery.
The family wishes to recognize and thank Maplewood at Cuyahoga Falls for their amazing care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
