Obituary

James L. Deemer, 77, of Tallmadge, passed away on July 21, 2016, following a brief illness.

Jim was born in Akron, Ohio on September 10, 1938, to John and Helen Deemer.  Jim was raised in Tallmadge, where he proudly delivered newspapers on his ponies, Princie and Boots.  He graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1956.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Coast Guard. He spent 4 years active duty, stationed in The Great Lakes, Japan and Hawaii.  He was self-employed, with his father, at Ravenna Tool and Die for many years.  After retiring as a machinist, he enjoyed working at his favorite golf course, Windmill Lakes in Ravenna, where he irritated friends and others with his creative pin placements.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Ravenna Elks, VFW, American Legion and Italian American Club.  He was also a member of the Kent American Legion and Canadian Club and the Stow American Legion.

Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, his cantankerous ways, and the love he had for his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. Deemer and Helen (McConnell) Deemer.  Brothers-in-law, Robert S. Young and John E. Orr; Sister-in-law, Kay Deemer.  He is survived by his wife, Peg (Young), to whom he was married 57 years.  Children, Brian (Wendy) Deemer, Aaron (Annie) Deemer, and Julie (Joe) Kirkbaumer; Grandchildren, Justin Deemer, Sam and Rachel Kirkbaumer, and Luke and Jack Deemer; Brother, John "Spank" Deemer and sister Polly Orr; Sisters-in-law, Ruthanne (Perry) Fry and Renita Young and many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
