James A. Ingram

July 6, 1931 — May 22, 2025

Tallmadge

James A. Ingram, 93 of Tallmadge, peacefully joined his beloved wife Irene in heaven on May, 22, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on July 6, 1931, in Conway, Pennsylvania, and lived his adult life in the Tallmadge area.

Jim was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Tallmadge and served as a lay minister for many years. He was a pharmacist, graduating from Duquesne University in 1954, and was enlisted in the U.S. Army 1955-1957.

He married Irene in 1960 and helped start an independent pharmacy, Youngfellow Drug, in the same year. Over the next 10 years, Youngfellow expanded to become several stores in Akron and Cuyahoga Falls. He and his partners merged with Acme Grocery Stores in 1970, which still operates as Acme Pharmacy today. Jim continued to work as a pharmacist through 2010, at which time he decided to become a full-time caregiver to Irene who was suffering from cognitive decline.

Jim worked on the railroad and in the steel mills of Conway to put himself through college. He was a lifetime fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and was often seen wearing his Steelers coat in public, much to the chagrin of Browns fans in the area. He loved a good Italian meal, and no matter how full he was, he always had room for dessert in "the dessert compartment". Jim and Irene loved to hold hands. He enjoyed playing golf, and card games Bridge and 500 Rummy. Jim will be remembered as a humble man of great compassion, and caring for those around him, family, friends, and strangers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; infant children, Daniel and Adam; parents, George and Velma Ingram; sister, Dolores Schwartz.

Jim is survived by sister, Janice (Pudge) Duffy of Fairfax, Virginia; sons, Michael Ingram of Beaverton, Oregon, Jeffrey (Tina) Ingram of Kent, David (Jodie) Ingram of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Andrea (John) Clark of Kent; grandchildren Lydia (Jerry), Eli, Spencer, Dashiell, Audrey, and Theo; great-grandchildren Hendrix, Costello, and Ellington; nephew, Eric; nieces, Kimberly and Cheryl; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.  The family would like to thank the gracious workers of Crossroads Hospice, who helped Jim have a peaceful transition on his journey to the next life.
