James "Jay" Scarpitti , 81, passed away unexpectedly October 11, 2014.

Jay was born and lived in the Akron area all of his life.  He was a loving husband and father.  Jay was a very giving person who put others needs ahead of his own.  He was a happy person with many friends.  He will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Marietta Scarpitti and his sister, Carmen Vincent.  Jay is survived by his loving wife, Ann; step-daughters, Linda (Paul Linehan ) Hines, Karen Alfather and Kimberly Garthoff ; brothers, Tony (Norma) Scarpitti and Steve Scarpitti ; many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Friday at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron. Memorial Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 pm THURSDAY, October 16, at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron.
