James C Woodling

April 18, 1925 — November 1, 2015

James C Woodling, 90, passed away November 1, 2015.

He was born in Akron and has lived in Tallmadge since 1971.

Jim served in the US Navy during WWII and retired from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company with 33 years of service as a mechanical engineer.  As a member of The First Congregational Church of Tallmadge Jim became a deacon, sang in the choir, became a youth advisor and went on many mission trips.  He also volunteered for Mobile Meals, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Cross.  He was a member of the Akron Torch Club, Sierra Club and was a Cub Scout leader.  Above all Jim believed in serving others before himself.

Jim's love of travel was nurtured by his tour of duty in the Navy and through his professional assignments at Goodyear which relocated him to many countries before he finally settled in Ohio.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Esther Woodling.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Suzanne M. Woodling of Dallas, TX; son, Michael (Ingrid) Woodling of Munroe Falls, OH; sisters, Jeanette "Moosie" Woodling of Jackson, WY; Joanne (Homer) Brickman of Mansfield, OH; and granddaughter, Gretchen Woodling of Munroe Falls, OH.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Drive, Tallmadge.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Dr. John Schluep officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Tallmadge or to Sierra Club by calling (415) 977-5653.
