Jean P.
(Oden) Selby
November 27, 1920 – July 28, 2017
Jean P. (Oden) Selby, 96, went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2017. She was born in Roanoke, VA but lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Akron's North High School in 1939. During WWII she worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co wiring Bofor guns. Later she worked for the Akron Board of Education as an Auxiliary Services Clerk at St. Martha School. She was a Girl Scout leader and OASIS volunteer. In 1997 she was awarded the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her numerous volunteer hours and contributions to OASIS. As a volunteer with North Hill Needlecrafters, she crocheted hundreds of lap-blankets for veterans, numerous hats, and blankets for Akron Children's Hospital and many layette sets for area pregnancy services. Preceded in death by parents Nellie and Hale Oden, husband Paul Garlock who lost his life during WWII and her beloved husband of 49 years, Frederick J. B. Selby; daughter, Sandra (Garlock) Germano; sons-in-law, Eric Schlueter and Richard Germano, Sr.; siblings, Oscar Oden, Doris White, John Oden; siblings-in-law, Sr. Genevieve Selby, IHM, Paul Selby, Angeline Leonhard, Margaret Arnold, Joseph Selby, John Selby, and Thomas Selby. Survived by daughters, Susan Huth (Patrick Mulhearn), Nancy Carson and Patrice Schlueter; Grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Germano, Jr., Jennifer Germano, Elizabeth (Christopher) Belmont, Edwin Huth III, Angela (David) Just, Sara (Damon) Caiazza, Edward Carson, III, Andrew Schlueter (Jennifer Petriella) and Lauren (Cody) Burgher; Great-grandchildren, Natalia, Alexis, Camryn, Carson, Joshua, Claire, Isaiah, Chase, Luca, Elijah, and Isaac; and one great-great-grandchild, Weston; Siblings, Maryjane Fahner and Charles Oden; Sisters-In-law, Sr. Patrice Marie Selby, IHM, and Marie (Kenny) Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Tuesday at Blessed Trinity Chruch, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave. Akron. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron.
