Jean Mary (Schartiger) Paul

Jean Mary (Schartiger) Paul, age 70, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away on May 1, 2025, at Summa Health Akron Campus, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 13, 1955, to the late Charles W. and Dorothy J. (Kommel) Schartiger. Jean spent her childhood in Hartville, Ohio, where her parents resided for over 50 years. A 1973 graduate of Lake High School, Jean went on to work for several years at Waltz Photo in Canton, where she met her future husband, Timothy Paul of Massillon. They were married in 1984 at Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts. Jean and Tim spent several years living in New Hampshire, where their son Michael was born, before settling in Massillon in 1991.

Jean had a deep love of travel and shared many memorable adventures with Tim, especially exploring the beauty of America's National Parks. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Acadia, and Redwood National Park were among her favorites—she had a particular fondness for watching the baby bison.

At home, Jean was passionate about animals and found great joy in caring for the familys beloved cats and dogs. She also cherished time in the kitchen and loved cooking for her family. She made sure her son Michael learned to cook as well, passing down both skills and cherished traditions.

Jean is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy Paul of Massillon; her son, Michael (Heather) Paul of Cuyahoga Falls; and her brothers, William (Sharon) Schartiger of Dover, OH, and John and Timothy Schartiger, both of Massillon.
