Jean L. (Weyrick) Szalay

TALLMADGE   Jean Szalay, age 85, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 while at Akron City Hospital.  She was born September 30, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to Hugh and Ida Weyrick.  Jean lived in the Akron area her entire life.  She retired from Schrader Bellows Pneumatic Div. of Parker Hannifin in 1988 with 39 years service and many fond memories of times shared with her co-workers.  In early days she enjoyed vacations with her husband John, family members, and friends.  She also enjoyed sharing time with her nieces and their family and friends, as well as reading, baking, cooking, and crocheting.  She was a member of the Tallmadge AARP, the Tallmadge Primetimers, and Yusef Khan Caldron #24.  A former member of East Market St. UCC, where she enjoyed the friendships of many life long friends and currently is a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge where she also enjoyed the friendship of many friends.  Her husband John to whom she was married 56 years passed on in September of 2009.  In addition she was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Ida Weyrick, in-laws, John G. Szalay and Anna Szalay; twin sister, Joan Morris, and brother –in-law, Don Morris; one niece and two nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Eleanore Kennell of Colver, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Theresa Nugent of Bradenton, Florida; six nieces, Pat, Sally, Sherrie, Jo, Susan, and Wendy; five nephews, Clint, Hugh, Scott, John, and David; four cousins, Sandra, Karen Lee, Marcia, and Joyce as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews and all of their families.

Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 7, 2016 at the DONOVAN FUNERAL HOME, 17 SOUTHWEST AVE. (On the Historic Tallmadge circle) with Pastor Bob Smith officiating.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
