Jeffrey J. Matthews

Jeffrey J. Matthews (Pop), 73, passed away November 4, 2024.

He was born and raised in Akron. Jeff and his family lived in Tallmadge for nearly 40 years. He retired in 2005 from Waterloo Local Schools after 33 years of teaching middle school and spearheading the gifted/talented program. Jeff was a skilled antique dealer, museum guide, landscaper, simulated patient, and coached Tallmadge Youth baseball. He was passionate about his family, playing guitar and writing music, and his favorite pastime was baseball (Akron and Cleveland).

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Pamela, his high school sweetheart and love of his life for over 50 years.

Jeff is survived by his daughter, Nichole Cardinale; son, Scott Matthews; grandchildren, Gina and Olivia; sister, Janet (Michael) Semonin; and brothers, David (Melinda) Matthews, Robert (Patty) Matthews.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place.

Jeff will be honored in a Celebration of Life Event on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6pm at The Duck Club at Canal Park Stadium in Akron. Family and friends are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Jeff's name toward a scholarship for a 2025 graduate of Waterloo School District.
