Obituary

Joan (Frohnapfel) Spenoso, 97 years, passed away February 14, 2018. Born in Akron, Ohio, the first of nine children; she lived all her life on North Hill. Joan was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. With her husband Joe (deceased) they raised their family in the North Hill area not far from where she grew up. Family was of highest importance to Joan. Whether it was reading books with her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren; baking Christmas cookies together; having a picnic; or planning a vacation to Lakeside, it happened within a loving family circle. Family was never limited, for home was a place where all were welcome and there was always room at the table for a friend or drop in guest. Joan cooked and served the meal with love and generosity and there was plenty of food to go around. In years when others thought of retirement, Joan continued to volunteer at St. Martha Church as a lector or on committees. She served over 3500 hours as a guide and volunteer at Stan Hywet and at age 76, she chaired the Ohio Mart. She is survived by children, Yvonne, IHM, Mark (Linda), Kurt (Cindy), and Suzy (Bob) Zimmermann; grandchildren, Tony Spenoso, Steve Spenoso, Lisa (Patrick) Dunn, Carolyn (Dirk) Friedrich, Mike (Abby) Zimmermann, and Chrissy Zimmermann; great-grandchildren, Anneliese and Emil Friedrich, and Molly Dunn; brothers and sisters, Louise Wagner (deceased), Jim Frohnapfel (deceased), John Frohnapfel, Ramona Hull (deceased), Alice Ryne, Charlotte Evans, Luke Frohnapfel (Mary Lou), and Grace Cahill; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N Main St., Akron. Donations may be made to Blessed Trinity Church, or Stan Hywet714 N Portage Path, Akron, OH.
