Joan (Miller) Skinner, 81, was a beloved wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. She passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2022. Joan was born on September 16, 1941, in South Fork, PA, daughter of the late Howard G. and Evelyn A. (Shaffer) Miller. She came from a family of 12 siblings where her family was everything. After high school, she went to work in Washington, DC for the Federal Aviation Administration where she met her husband, David Skinner who was in the Marine Corps. They married on December 15, 1962 and moved to Akron, OH where they started their family. Joan retired from the Bureau of Worker's Compensation in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; ten siblings, Romayne, Dorothy, Phoebe, Barbara, Howard, Eugene, Pete, Robert, James, and Denver.
She leaves behind to cherish precious memories her daughter, Toni (Tom) Haag; son, Shane (Margie) Skinner; grandchildren, Shana (Sam) Magner, David (Kaylee) Skinner, Tyner (soon to be granddaughter in law Sarina) Taylor, Trevor and Teah Haag, Caden Skinner, River Kelly; great grandson, Sheperd Magner; sisters, Evelyn Reed and Sandra Stigers, as well as too many to list nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan was one of 13 children growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania, where she shared many stories through the years of having her very own built-in playmates, whether she wanted them or not. Her grandchildren were her life and you can count on one hand how many activities or events that she missed. She loved being with them more than anything in this world. She always enjoyed working the lunch room counter at St. Joe's every Thursday so she could see her grandkids and their friends. Joan's happy place was the beach always looking for seashells for hours on end with an aching back at the end of the day. Other happy times she and David most enjoyed were wintering in Florida and Arizona with her siblings. She was the heart of our family and everyone that knew her loved her! Joan was a strong, but gentle woman that guided all in our family with her never ending love, hugs and selflessness. She always took care of everyone else but herself. Her memory will be cherished and she will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her. We are pretty sure she was greeted by David saying "Joan, make me a sandwich!"
