John Edward Mitchell, 64, of Stow, passed away February 19, 2014.

He was born June 8, 1949 in Huntington, W. Va. John was a salesman and was passionate about the plight of service veterans. He served in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War. He was an aerial reconnaissance photographer. John received many medals including a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mitchell. John is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy (Contessa) Mitchell; mother, Phyllis Kelly; brother, Bob (Moni) Mitchell; mother and father-in-law, Joyce and Lou Contessa; many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.

Private services have taken place. John was buried at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family is requesting that donations in John's memory be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 301 Grant St. Suite 900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or woundedwarriorsproject.org.
